Imperfect.

There is someone in my head,

someone who orders me around,

telling me to take risks,

and telling how I look similar to a clown.

She tells me how weird I look,

especially in skirts and shorts,

I think it’s just a version of myself,

who also says I am not fit for sports.

She is a demon in my mind,

laughing at my face,

and she wonders that,

in the world I don’t deserve a place.

‘Don’t smile at her’ she says,

‘she may be one of your best friends,

but I bet she stabs you in the back,

and just tries to pretend.’

Leading me astray,

has always been her forte,

I may not be perfect for you,

but I will try to be, everyday.

Yes, I do make mistakes,

and so does every other human being,

I want to be me,

someone who fulfils their dreams after dreaming.

Don’t hate yourself! Just be you:)

Hi! I am a 13-year-old currently studying in the Netherlands. For 5 years, I was studying in London and moved to India for some time in July 2019. First of all, I love playing the western flute and have been playing for quite a few years now. Playing and also, listening to music is definitely my passion. Some sports I enjoy playing are badminton, netball, swimming, football, cricket (these are the top 5!). Ok, so let’s talk about poetry. I wrote my first poem in a primary school in England and this inspired me to start writing poems on WordPress. Some of my recent poems are about global issues such as climate change, depression, bullying etc. Writing poetry is another passion of mine…so, check out my poems on WordPress. I don’t know what else I could say here so, hope you love my poems…..happy reading!!

  1. I think the fact that you’ve tried to address her gave you the authority over her as you showed her your true self and what you want to be. You’ve won the war over yourself and I think you’ve done it with the best tool you had – words. It was a beautifully written poem because of the thoughts that went behind it. You’ve inspired me with your poem… thank you!!
